A great outdoor space should serve as a true extension of the home, customized to your lifestyle and the way your family lives. For this home, built in 1999, the backyard had incredible potential but lacked cohesion, function, and a family-friendly layout. That’s where we stepped in.

The Original Client Vision

The homeowners wanted to transform their existing backyard into a multipurpose outdoor living space. Their vision included a facelift for the pool, a covered patio for lounging and dining, an expansive outdoor kitchen for entertaining, a half-bath for convenience, and a play area for the kids. They also hoped to address the noisy road behind their property and solve drainage issues caused by the sloping terrain.

The Custom Outdoor Solution

The transformation began by removing several trees and bringing in fill dirt to level out the sloped yard. TCP then constructed a retaining wall and overhauled the entire layout, including a major pool deck renovation. The result is a beautifully unified and elevated outdoor area perfect for entertaining and family fun.

The centerpiece of this project is a freestanding 775-square-foot structure with a vaulted, gabled roof. The columns were wrapped in Hardie and painted to match the newly repainted house, ensuring seamless integration with the original architecture.

A back wall was added to block out street noise, and a strategically placed window brings natural light into the space. The ceiling features Woodtone’s Smokey Bourbon pre-stained tongue and groove panels, adding warmth and sophistication to the outdoor living area.

To make the space comfortable year-round, electric heaters and ceiling fans were installed. The generous layout includes two separate dining areas, a spacious living area, and bar seating along a 10-foot island, making this the ultimate destination for dining al fresco.

The highlight of the outdoor kitchen is a custom-built Brazilian grill with flue and ventilation, complemented by two glass-door RCS outdoor-rated refrigerators, a drawer fridge, a sink, and plenty of storage. The kitchen’s Glacier White granite countertops offer durability and elegance.

The original swimming pool was refreshed to match the new aesthetic, with updated pool decking that uses the same porcelain tile as the rest of the patio area—creating a cohesive and contemporary feel. An outdoor shower was installed on the back of the structure for added convenience.

The newly added play yard is surfaced with soft, durable astroturf and bordered by a charming stepping stone path. This space is perfect for the kids to play safely while adults relax or entertain nearby.
