The homeowner wanted to update their existing patio cover to make it more private and functional, adding a fireplace and screens to create a cozy, sheltered retreat. In addition, they envisioned a new freestanding structure that would serve as an outdoor bar — complete with space for hosting and relaxing.
To deliver on this vision, TCP first updated the existing patio cover by installing a cast stone fireplace and building a privacy wall with windows on either side. Retractable screens were also added to the windows and far end of the cover to create shade and ensure privacy from neighboring yards. The painted Hardie ceiling and natural stone finishes gave the space a fresh, welcoming look.
For the second space, a 375 SF freestanding structure was designed as the homeowner’s outdoor bar. It featured matching ceiling and stone finishes to tie the two areas together. A back wall with floating shelves was finished in stucco to blend seamlessly with the home, while a decorative powder-coated metal slatted wall added both design and privacy. The bar included a sink, fridge, storage drawers, underlit counters, and a granite prep and serving station. A breezeway was built to connect the new space to the home and provide a covered walkway. Together, the two areas created the perfect mix of cozy evenings and lively gatherings.
This backyard renovation proves that two outdoor living spaces are better than one. From the fireplace and retractable screens for comfort to the fully equipped outdoor bar for entertaining, every detail was designed to enhance usability and style. With consistent finishes and thoughtful design, the result is a backyard that truly feels like an extension of the home.
